SP

Siriporn Petcharat

Bangkok

"I came in not knowing what questions to ask, let alone what I needed. The adviser listened for a long time before saying anything, and when she did explain things it was in a way I could actually follow. There was no feeling of being pushed toward any particular decision. I left the first meeting much calmer than I arrived."

"As someone not from Thailand, I was worried about dealing with a legal system I didn't know in a language I'm not fluent in. Khwan Law handled everything in English, explained the Thai law aspects clearly, and were honest about what the process would involve and how long it might take. The reality matched what they told me. That matters a lot."

Cooperative agreement — April 2025

"The whole process took longer than I hoped — but I think that was the right pace for what we were dealing with. The team were patient, and they were transparent about what was happening at each stage. I never felt out of the loop or confused about what was going on. The outcome was one both sides could live with."

"I had consulted two other practices before Khwan Law, and the difference in approach was noticeable. Here there was no rush to move to formal steps — instead, we talked through whether a cooperative route was possible first. It was, and it made the whole process much less damaging for everyone involved."

"Coming from a different legal background, I had a lot of questions about how Thai family law differs from what I was used to. The adviser was patient with those questions and never made me feel as though I was wasting time. The fee was clear from the start, which also helped."

"A difficult situation was handled with real care. The team kept me informed at every stage and took the time to explain what each document meant before anything was signed. The correspondence was always prompt and in clear English. I would not hesitate to recommend them to others in a similar position."

Case Studies

How some matters unfolded

These accounts are shared in general terms, with all identifying information removed, to give a sense of how different situations are handled.

Case Study 1 — Cooperative Arrangement

The situation

A couple with two children had been living separately for some time and wanted to formalise arrangements around parental responsibilities and shared assets. Both wanted to avoid court proceedings if possible, but earlier discussions between them had become difficult.

What we did

We worked with both parties over six weeks through a series of structured conversations, with a focus on what mattered most to each person. A mediator joined for two sessions. A written agreement was drafted and reviewed by both parties before being finalised.

The outcome

A workable agreement was reached without formal proceedings. Both parties reported feeling the process was fair. The arrangement held up in the six months following, which the client described as "more than we managed in the previous two years."

"It was not easy, but the way Khwan Law held the process gave us the space to reach something we both agreed on."

Case Study 2 — Full Representation

The situation

An international client needed formal proceedings initiated in Thailand on a matter involving both Thai civil law and the legal framework of another country. They had no prior experience with the Thai legal system and found the unfamiliarity deeply unsettling.

What we did

We began with a thorough consultation to explain the Thai legal framework and what the process would likely involve. We then took on full preparation, documentation, and representation over approximately four months, keeping the client informed in English at each stage.

The outcome

The matter was concluded through formal proceedings. The client described the process as "much less bewildering than I feared" and noted that having a consistent contact throughout made the most difficult periods manageable.

"I never felt lost. Every step was explained before it happened, not after."

Case Study 3 — Consultation Leading to Informed Decision

The situation

A client came in considering formal steps following a change in family circumstances, uncertain whether those steps were necessary or whether things could be handled differently. They were not ready to commit to a process but wanted to understand their position.

What we did

We conducted a thorough initial consultation, explaining both the formal and informal paths available. We set out what each would involve, how long it might take, and what outcomes were realistic. No path was advocated — the information was laid out clearly and the decision was left entirely with the client.

The outcome

The client decided not to proceed to further legal steps at that point, having understood that the situation could be managed in a less formal way. They described leaving the consultation feeling "clear-headed for the first time in months."

"They helped me understand what I needed to know — and then left the decision entirely with me. That was exactly right."
